The first big issue covered was his rash. A few days earlier we made an unscheduled stop at the office to have them check Ami's rash and the cold he's been battling. At the time we saw Dr. Lischwe, an older no nonsense lady. She's nice enough, but she's no Dr. Kim. Lischwe definitely has seniority and upon seeing the rash we got a very disheartening, "What in the world is that?" Not what you want to hear from the people who are supposed to have the answers. Dr. Kim immediately went on the offensive upon seeing the rash. She immediately ruled out Eczema and finally settled on a diagnosis of something viral. That led to the immediate question of whether he's still at home or in daycare. Daycare is of course the culprit. She called in Dr. Lischwe who concurred that it had to be something viral and Dr. Kim confidently assessed that it should go away within a week. She's been on the ball so far; the rash started retreating on Saturday. Not all gone, but certainly an improvement from a week ago. We've been advised not to put anything on it (at some point we had decided to rub some sort of ointment on it - blanking on the name...) and to just let it run its course. Fair enough.
The next issue is this persistent cold and cough that he's been struggling with for over a month now. His lungs sound fine and her comments mirrored those of Dr. Lischwe's earlier last week; the stuff seems to be confined to his upper air passages. Or something like that. But - and here's where it gets complicated - she expressed some concern about a wheezing noise he makes after he coughs. To be honest with you, it doesn't sound like a wheeze to me and in fact Napi and I have laughed about it from time to time. Basically every now and again Ami' will cough and after the cough he'll let out what sounds like a cross between a sigh and an attempt to blow bubbles. Dr. Kim noticed that Napi and her dad both have suffered from asthma and that was enough for her to send us home with a nebulizer. Ami' didn't know what to make of the thing the first two times we hooked him up to it, but he is thoroughly disgusted with it now and that's made clear by lots of hollering and screaming...
The real purpose of this appointment was to administer his second series of shots, but with the rash, cold, and a fever of 102 degrees at appointment time, the decision was made to postpone the shots until this Thursday. He is slated to receive the following shots: Diphtheria, HIB, Polio, Roto Virus, and Pneumococcal. At that time we're also scheduled to return the nebulizer. It's unclear to me whether it is having any effect other than demonstrating Ami's ability to cry at the top of his lungs...
On to the specs! Ami's weighs in at a whopping 17lbs, 6oz. That puts him in the 90th percentile of his weight group. His head measures 43cm for a respectable 74th percentile and he is 27 inches long, placing him in the 97th percentile. I'm most pleased with the last measurement. I'm praying the boy tops out at over 6' tall and he seems well on his way to accomplishing that. As for today's pic - consider this the calm before the storm...
