Note: For all those wondering why my father said he wouldn’t pay for a wedding for his only 2 daughters…
My dad gave us the choice, he and my mom would pay for either 4 yrs of college or a wedding. Of course, we (my sister and I) went to college knowing full well we’d be paying for our own weddings. I put myself through grad school (student loans that must be paid back) and would have never even considered asking my parents for help w/a wedding.
Just a few days ago while having a phone discussion w/my mom about the October wedding location, she informed me that she and my dad would be contributing to the wedding.
When you have parents who have put you through a few yrs of private school, paid for dance classes, gymnastics, instruments, music lesions, school trips, your first car, 5 yrs and almost 200 credits (double major) of undergraduate college, helped w/rent and books and supplies during those 5 yrs, paid your car insurance, cell phone bill and have always reassured you they’d be there if you needed them, you sometimes feel bad about asking for extra, especially when you’re an adult. My parents felt it was their responsibility to provide me w/the tools to make me a productive, self-sufficient person. Paying for a wedding wasn’t included in that responsibility.
It is a blessing that they have offered to help and I am very thankful for that.
