Normally that would only apply to Napi, but today
Peanut shares the compliment. We had our final ultrasound this afternoon and after much gel and lots of wand movements, we have the all-clear for
Peanut. If you're new to the ultrasound business, allow me to give you my rather non-technical description of how these things look. Our first sonogram came at around the 8.5 week mark and we could clearly make out the little shape that spawned his current name -
Peanut. Basically the boy looked like a very young Peanut sitting in there
chilling. The next ultrasound appointment probably came at around the 24th week mark and there we could clearly make out a baby. We saw the goods when he basically spread his legs as though he knew we were trying to figure out his gender (which he did again today, by the way...), and we could make out little arms, legs, the shape of his head, etc. This third ultrasound was probably the murkiest of the three. The technician explained that because his bones have solidified since that last ultrasound (and as a result casting more shadows), and because he's surrounded by less fluid than before, his features are more difficult to discern than say at 24 weeks. Initially I didn't think we were going to make out anything. She kept pointing out stuff and I kept nodding my head while wondering what the hell was she pointing at. But then we saw this:
That's our boy!! And from there we could pretty much make out everything. We saw both kidneys, his heart (now beating in the mid 130's - down from the mid 140's two weeks ago), his hands, I think we saw a feet, his head, eyes (well the sockets really), ears, nose and lips. According to the tech, he's measuring at 37 weeks - a week later than we thought) and right now is weighing in at 6lbs 6 ounces. Much to Napi's dismay, she won't be giving birth tonight or the next several nights, but she is comforted in that we've confirmed his head is down. Not exactly my best writing (we just returned home from our last child birth class (a non-event really, nothing much discussed other than breastfeeding tips...) but allow me to continue beaming with pride at the beautiful pics of my little boy!
