What's Wrong With Her Back?

This back pain thing has really become an issue and Napi called the doctor today in part because she was concerned that something might be wrong with the Peanut. Throughout the week she's been experiencing the back and butt pains previously mentioned, and little Peanut has been doing cartwheels as of late. With all of the above in mind, she called the doctor and was immediately ordered to report to the office. It turns out they couldn't tell her much. The doctor advised that it was possible the baby might be pressing against a sciatic nerve, resulting in the butt pains, and she has ordered Napi to see a chiropractor. Her appointment is set for Saturday, a few hours before we head down to the Kennedy Center to enjoy the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater.

The doctor also confirmed Napi's feelings, and Grandma Napi's visual observation that Peanut seems to be favoring Napi's left side. I'd mentioned in an earlier post that I could make out what appeared to be the baby's shape on that side of her tummy. The doctor went on to explain that babies tend to favor one side or the other, but may very well move over to the other side at some point. Today, with seemingly little notice, Peanut decided to do a breakdance or something in there, a feeling Napi described not so much as discomfort but rather surprising. I think I'm going to sign this baby up for track and field at the rate s/he's going.

Oh, one last thing from the doc - Peanut's heart rate is now in the 150's - an increase of nearly 10 beats from our earlier visit and further confusing the boy/girl tests. On the one hand is the ring test, indicating boy; while on the other is the heartbeat test, indicating girl...Lord, just let Peanut be healthy please!
